Vincent Van Gogh : What a Man!!

Henry David Thoreau has said somewhere :
As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler;
solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness.”

Today I want to speak about Vincent Van Gogh.

Can we not live just for life’s sake?
The poets have defined art as for its own sake, there is nothing else beyond it: art for art’s sake.
It will not appeal to the the world around us at all because the world counts things in terms of money, position, power.

Van Gogh, I can say, epitomised the art for art’s sake idiom.
He could not sell a single painting in his whole life.
Not a single person could see that there was anything in his paintings.
His younger brother used to send him money; enough so that he did not die of starvation.

And what Vincent van Gogh was doing was for four days he would eat, and for the three days in between those four days he was saving money for paints, canvasses.

His whole life van Gogh was just giving his paintings to friends: to the hotel where he used to eat four days a week he would present a painting, or to a prostitute who told him that he was not a beautiful man.
Van Gogh was an ugly man in terms of the fact that no woman ever fell in love with him.
He would frequent prostitutes.
And these people who got these free paintings were not proud of having got them either.
For his paintings had no market value then.

Van Gogh lived his whole life in poverty. He died painting.

In his life nobody appreciated his work. In his life no art gallery accepted his paintings, even free.

I want you to ponder on Vincent Van Gogh. I ponder about him all the time.
He must have had the lowest self esteem any man could have.
And yet he continued doing what he wanted to do. To paint.
He painted for painting’s sake.

Moral of the story : Let us just live for life’s sake.

Music has been in the pages of history since times immemorial. It manages to touch several hearts with a single cord. English music has managed to connect well with people belonging to all age groups. English music has been a source of entertainment to the young, and solace to the old. My personal favourite are The Beatles. Even after 40 years, their music still touches hearts everywhere.

There are several sites from where one can download English music. A large population of the world listens to and enjoys English songs all over. English language is one of the most widely read and understood in the world . That said, Chinese music too is great. I wonder how many people have actually heard the Chinese Music, its truly amazing.

The Loss of a Child

Grief fills the room up of my absent child,
Lies in his bed, walks up and down with me,
Puts on his pretty looks, repeats his words,
Remembers me of all his gracious parts,
Stuffs out his vacant garments with his form:
Then have I reason to be fond of grief.
Fare you well; had you such a loss as I,
I could give better comfort than you do.
I will not keep this form upon my head
When there is such disorder in my wit.
O Lord! my boy, my Arthur, my fair son!
My life, my joy, my food, my all the world!
My widow-comfort, and my sorrows’ cure!

No one who has had to face the loss of a child can read those lines and maintain his composure.
Truly, the loss of a young one must rank as the most tragic of all the ill-fortune one can face.
Its like God hitting below the belt.

The natural order of things is the “death of fathers”. But when the unnatural occurs, one gets shell-shocked.
No words can assuage the grief of that bereavement.
Nothing can give comfort. Nothing can relieve the pain of that loss.
Nothing.

Wall Street Blues

It is not the business of Government to do Business – this adage still holds true.
A corrective measure can eradicate some anomalies. But the Free Market should be allowed its rein unhindered.

President Obama is treading uncharted territory as he proceeds with his tinkering of the Government’s role in the financial services industry. These “adequate regulatory structures” could end up squeezing the very life of the free market entrepreneur.

When and where the Government in its wisdom intervenes, bureaucracy with its indefatigable might will follow. No guesses for the outcome to follow

SA still choke

When SA chased 414 against Australia at the WACA, one thought a fine little achievement had been registered. Two of the team members in that fine run-chase were AB de Villiers and JP Duminy.
They were present yesterday against the 20-20 semi-final against Australia.

Yes, it was a different ball-game. Yesterday they crash-landed on Shahid Afridi. Afridi the Man of the Match seemed in a different league. His leg-spin was even better than his batting. Maybe he won his trophy for his remarkable bowling.

But back to SA. Steve Waugh had taunted Gibbs on having dropped the world cup, when he floored his catch.
SA have still not recovered from that Steve Waugh drop from what was on display, yesterday.

So when it rings ( pray it does at the right time ) especially when you are partying with your friends, the latet hinid movie ringtones, be it the latest upcoming Akshay Kumar starrrer Kambakht Ishq ringtone or the Saif Ali Khan starrer Love Aaj Kal Ringtones, it does make one feel WITH THE TIMES. Communists are Atheists

The communists want that all people everywhere should be treated as equals and have the same rights. They ideally want a classless and stateless society.

Marx visualized that soon enough private ownership will be abolished and the means of production and subsistence become the property of society. Even Plato in The Republic suggests control of possessions.

Now does God concur with these outlandish ideas? God created in his munificence all variety of men. Some are born poor, some achieve poverty and some have poverty thrust on them. Some, of course are also born rich, some achieve riches and some have riches thrust on them.

God does not want men to be equals.  Period.

God does not believe in Communism. The communists are only returning the favour.
